Return To The
Main Highpoints Page

California was my home state for 22 years, from when I was just a small boy to just after I graduated college. I climbed Mt. WHitney in August 1992, a mere three weeks before leaving the state for Arizona. Ironically I did not get into climbing the peaks of California until many years later. I worked on the Southern California county highpoints, completing them in 2001. My brother still lives in SoCal, and my sister up in the San Francisco Bay Area, so I have visited them and hiked the highpoints as convenient.

I currently have 38 counties completed, but a state completion seems unlikely due to a high number of very restricted, privately-owned highpoints. I am not bothered by this, though. My general plans for California are to peck away at the other counties in the north part of the state, and to start hiking the numerous prominence peaks in the southern part, including the deserts.
