Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1975-76 (by Dan Proudfoot)

There's another, older Claude Larose who has toiled for Montreal Canadiens, among other NHL teams, but this Claude Larose is only a youngster, right out of the Quebec junior league.

He's something special, though, Stingers are sure of it. Otherwise they wouldn't have made him the first choice in the entire WHA amateur draft.

"I see Henri Richard here," says coach Terry Slater. "He cuts toward the net like nobody else. He's not all that big, but he has good arms, good hands, so he has an excellent, deadly wrist shot."

Excerpts from Zander Hollander's Guide to Pro Hockey, 1975-76 (by Reyn Davis)

Became the third consecutive number-one draft choice signed by the Stingers ... Preceded by Dennis Sobchuk in 1973 and John Hughes in 1974 ... Stingers coach Terry Slater gave this glowing account of Larose: "He appears to actually explode when he breaks toward the opponents net. I have seen only one player break in toward the net quicker than Claude in all my years of hockey. That was Maurice Richard, and we all know what kind of player he was." ... Fired 69 goals and set up 76 others in 61 games with Sherbrooke in his final junior year ... Plays a very disciplined style, which prompted scouts to forecast an easy transition to pro hockey.

Excerpts from Pro Hockey, WHA 1976-77 (by Dan Proudfoot)

In three years as a junior in the Quebec Major League, Claude Larose shot 63, 56, and 69 goals. In 1975-76, the Cincinnati Stingers decided they were correct in their original assessment that he could come close to those totals in the World Hockey Association.

Larose clicked for 28 goals as a Stinger rookie and revealed a shot that should become increasingly productive. "The complaint about the slapshot is that you don't know where it's going," says Jerry Rafter, the Cincinnati director of player personnel. "Well, that isn't true in Claude's case. It won't be long before he's a 40-goal scorer."
