Garry Peters, hockey's minor league player of the year in 1971-72, hopes to be ready to play again around New Year's Day. Peters' right knee has had almost nine months to recuperate following surgery. He played fewer than 15 games as a Raider and now is pacing behind the Jersey Knights' bench, changing lines for Howell.
Peters said his return was postponed two more weeks when he suffered a freak hit in practice. "Ray LaRose fell into me from an unusual angle and aggravated the knee," said Peters. "He wouldn't hit from that angle again in 100 years."
