With Richmond City's highpoint in the books, we traveled west along Us-60 into Chesterfield County and the community of Midlothian to explore the five scattered Chesterfield County highpoints. We hit a couple but gave up when we could see the true high ground in the middle of the biggest contour, surrounded by brush, homes and some cultivated fields. So Chesterfield won this round. We drove west on US-60 about another ten miles putting us in Powhatan County.
The Powhatan County highpoint is less than a mile north of US-60 along Red Lane Road. We drove up this road and parked in a church lot near a cemetery. The highest ground seemed to be right along the road a few dozen feet ahead of us. There was some sort of tent revival getting ready to start nearby (we think), but the immediate area is very pretty and attractive. We explored some of the cemetary, too, then got moving. Back onto US-60, we headed east through Richmond again and somehow wormed our way onto Interstate-64. Later in the afternoon I visited the James City County highpoints.
