Beth and I were driving south from Fredericksburg toward Richmond, with most of a day to kill, so we took in two fairly simple highpoints, both not too far off the main route, Interstate-95. After a short visit to the Caroline County highpoint, we worked our way back to I-95, then south a bit, then exited again onto highway VA-30, taking the same exit for the King's Dominion Amusement Park. We drove about 9 miles east along VA-30, and passed into King William County which put us very near the tiny settlement of Calno, which is nothing more than a general store at a road junction, and some scattered homes and farm fields. Very pretty, but also (today) very very hot and humid, and uncomfortable. The map shows two small 210-foot contours set inside one large 200-foot contour that encompasses much of the junction area and lands west and north of the junction. There would be some walking required but not too much. Beth opted to sit this one out.

We parked at the general store, and I took off on a short walk south on Calno Road, walking about 400 feet and passing some homes on the west side of the road (and corn on the east side). One 210-foot contour is immediately off the road somewhere here, but nothing looked higher than anywhere else, although some berms with mature trees sat on some high ground just a few feet off the road. I made an educated guess, tagged some areas and trees, and returned to the car - total time out about 20 minutes. I was soaked in sweat.

For the other 210-foot area, we drove west on VA-30 just a short ways to where the road rose to a soft apex. I parked off the road in a gravel pullout, and crossed to the southside to a well-hidden, very old logging road cut. Reports said to go in this road a few hundred feet until one 'sensed' a rise. This I did. Surprisingly the undergrowth on this road wasn't too dense. I went in for about 5 minutes. Any rises I 'sensed' were minor. For this one I was forced to accept some potential error/wiggle room. I was quickly back to the car and we were on our way. The whole journey off the interstate took maybe 45 minutes.
