Beth and I had just visited Dorchester County's highpoint - on a chicken farm - and next on the docket was a visit to the Talbot County highpoint, not more than a 10-minute drive up the highway from the Dorchester highpoint. We were spending a day touring the peninsulas and 'necks' and having a grand old time; the county highpoints were merely afterthoughts and together took no more than a half hour of our time.
We found ourselves on the east side of the city of Easton and followed a series of local roads toward the highpoint. For a description of the roads and directions, I followed Roy Wallen's fine report found on the www.cohp.org website. I parked us at the highpoint of the road. Beth immediately looked at all the thick vegetation and decided she'd had enough of this and opted not to go in. I decided to go for it. The hike is trivial, just a few dozen feet south into the woods toward an obvious hump of land. Undergrowth was light but the leafbed was thick with lots of logs and twigs. As usual, I went slow keeping an eye open for snakes.
I hiked back out to the car, spending maybe 5 minutes at most on the journey. Not much to look at. In the short time I was out I was renedered totally sweaty by the brutal humidity. From here we drove west and spent a few hours walking the streets of the city of St. Michaels. Afterwards, we drove up and over the Bay Bridge into Annapolis and on to our hotel near the airport for our early morning flight back to Phoenix the next morning.
