Click on the map for a full-sized version I visited the state highpoints of Maryland and Delaware in May 2001. Maryland's state highpoint is a nice short hike in some wilderness, but Delaware's is for the birds, and these two visits probably would have been it had I not met and married my wonderful wife Beth in 2003. Her family lives in the region and since we fly into BWI airport (Baltimore-Washington International), we often find ourselves near some tempting highpoint side trips. In the ensuing years we have visted a few, often coming from or going to the airport. We did take some extended time in 2005 to tour the Delmarva Peninsula and revisit the Delaware state highpoint, which turned out to be a lot of fun as we met the local 'care-taker' of the highpoint, Doreen K. What was supposed to be a 5-minute visit turned into a fine hour with Doreen as she filled us in on the history of the area. The county highpoints further south in Maryland are nice, none very difficult, but located in some areas with nice scenery. So... we will continue to chip away at these counties in the ensuing years, with no real plan other than what's convenient and within our time constraints.
