Arizona Prominence Peaks Page

I am developing this page to outline a slow but ongoing project of mine, climbing the highest peaks in Arizona by prominence. A somewhat detailed explanation can be found by clicking on this different colored text. Like any metric, it has its pros and cons, but it does give some sort of order to the 'most visible' summits in Arizona. This list is based on a master list of the 473 peaks in Arizona that have a prominence of 1,000 feet or more. Edward Earl and Andy Martin, with help from others, compiled this list, which can be found here.

Although I have no immediate objective other than to hike and climb these peaks as I get around to them, there are two popular goals that these lists engender: the top 50 (known as the "50 Finest"), and all peaks with 2,000 feet of prominence, which in Arizona would take us down to spot #73. The associated map you see below is just for so-called "P2K" peaks, those who meet the magical 2,000 feet of prominence. Scroll down to the master list for links to those peaks with lesser prominence.

Be forewarned that these list rankings can change when new, more accurate figures are discovered. Some peaks may movce up one or two notches at the expense of another peak. What this means is that the rankings on these pages may not be internally consistent. I try to keep them up to date but I may have missed a few.
